On behalf of the executive staff and leadership of Congregation Beth Yeshurun, it is my honor and pleasure to invite you and your family to our 2010 Family Retreat. Beginning the evening of January 29, 2010 and lasting through the evening of January 30, we will spend a memorable Shabbat at the San Luis Resort in Galveston. The theme for this year’s retreat is "Growing a Jeiwsh Family...With Leaves As High As Our Roots Are Deep."

Jaffrey & Chris Getz, Sarah & Eric Gibbs, Samantha and Gil Melman will serve as co-chairs for our 2010 Family Retreat. Our co-chairs along with our Family Life Coordinator, Robin Berry and our Program Director, Tammy Friedman and I have worked to put together a Shabbat filled with exceptional programs that you and your children will all enjoy.

Families who attend this year’s Shabbaton will leave with a deeper understanding of what our jewish tradition expects of us both as individuals and as a community, as well as what our contributions should be to the world around us.

Our Shabbat retreat will offer you and your children the opportunity to take a break from your busy daily routine to participate in a wonderful Beth Yeshurun Shabbat experience with other synagogue families. Together we can strengthen old friendships and enjoy building new ones. From music to challah to fellowship, we will provide all the elements of an amazing Shabbat experience.

Participants of all ages will learn together from our rabbis and teachers. Breakout groups will be led by myself, our Retreat Facilitator, Rabbi Matt Berkowitz, Rabbi Steve Morgen, Hazzan David Propis, Cantor Diane Dorf, Cantor Francyne Davis Jacobs, Marilyn Albert, Eve Zehavi and others.

Our children will have the opportunity to participate in interactive family sessions, age-appropriate youth services, and programs and activities specifically designed with their interests in mind. They will have the opportunity to sepnd time with other Beth Yeshurun youth while learning more about themselves, their Jewish identities, and their responsibilities as Jews. This year, we will offer special teen and pre-teen programs, as well as opportunities to serve as junior retreat counselors.

Finally, our setting for this Shabbat will be the beautiful San Luis Resort, a beachfront four-star property overlooking the magnificent Gulf of Mexico and its sun-drenched beaches located only one hour from Houston. We will enjoy delicious Shabbat meals prepared by their acclaimed chefs and supervised by your Beth Yeshurun rabbis.

This will be a Shabbat you will not want to miss! Space is limited so please send in your registration materials and fees as soon as possible. Registration deadline is November 20th. Together, we will continue to make our Family Retreat an inspiring Jewish experience for all of our families.
