War broke out in Israel on October 7th and within a week, thousands of children and adults were evacuated with their families from the war zones to hotels in Jerusalem. Shalva opened its doors to evacuated individuals with disabilities creating a comprehensive, therapeutic program for them.  They joined Shalva's regular  beneficiaries, coping with their own trauma, in the art therapy program.

"I am excited to invite you to a meaningful event Beth Yeshurun will be hosting on the evening of November 4th  at 7 pm in partnership with the Shalva National Center.  Shalva, located in Jerusalem, is an organization that works with people with disabilities and their families. 

Shalva is one of the most impactful places I have ever visited in Israel.  Some of you have joined Lisa and me on our visits to Shalva. 

We are very excited to be hosting an event to showcase Shalva's Art Exhibit of Hope.  Following the breakout of the war, Shalva's art therapy team worked with the program's young adults and teenagers to help them express their feelings and emotions in response to the situation.  People with disabilities who had been evacuated from their homes in the South were also able to participate in this project.  The result is a beautiful art exhibit that highlights the trauma endured by all sectors of Israeli society.  It has been to shown in many communities around the world and we at Beth Yeshurun are excited for the chance to share it with the Houston community.  You can also read more about the exhibit in the attached article, which was published in the Jerusalem Post."
