Mazel tov to our Bat Mitzvah, Alyssa Janco, daughter of Jackie and David Janco, sister of Cara. Alyssa is the granddaughter of Lillie and Ben Hurwitz, Howard and Marla Janco and Anne Janco, of blessed memory. Alyssa is a seventh grader at the Emery/Weiner School, where she is involved in the musical theater department and plays basketball. She also participates in Odyssey of the Mind and Model United Nations and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society. For her mitzvah project, Alyssa routinely volunteered at the Gathering Place of Beth Yeshurun, a monthly program for adults with memory loss and their caregivers, and at the Houston Food Bank, sorting and packaging donated food items for community distribution. Alyssa has chosen to donate a portion of her monetary gifts to the Association for Wellbeing of Israel’s Soldiers, as part of the Rabbi’s 10% plan.
