Competing in Goodness is bringing faith communities together to see who can raise the most food for the Houston Food Bank! Through a friendly competition in October 2024, faith centers will compete against one another to collect non-perishable items for the Houston Food Bank. The event’s conclusion will celebrate neighborly achievement at a unifying event in central Houston with participating congregations.

What do we hope to achieve?
This interfaith competition is a terrific opportunity to work together to benefit our city, develop a stronger sense of community, and motivate participants to reach across to their neighbors. Ultimately, by fostering stronger awareness of hunger in the Greater Houston area, using our faith as the vehicle, we hope to create a continuous reminder of the role we must all play together.

Before the Program
Participating faith centers will engage and prepare their communities with supply lists, education, and marketing.

During the Competition
We’ll track the food collected and post the latest results weekly on this website. Clergy and educators at the faith centers will provide faith-based messaging about hunger in their communities.

After It’s Over
The program’s conclusion is a unifying event for competing congregations in central Houston. In addition to the awards, ceremony, and entertainment, this event will be an opportunity to meet neighbors and learn more about one another.
