Due to increasing number of positive Covid cases not just in our city, but in our Beth Yeshurun community, as well as the latest news from the CDC, local and state officials, and our medical advisors, the following COVID-related protocols are now in effect:
All main sanctuary services will be in Barg Sanctuary. Shabbat Morning Chapel services will be moved to the Freedman Levit Sanctuary. Weekday Chapel services will remain in the J.B. Greenfield Chapel. All Chapel Breakfasts will be moved outdoors. All employees, members, and visitors must wear masks when inside our building.
These changes will remain in effect through the end of the year. We will reevaluate after January 1st.

Sunday, January 9 at 11:00am - In the years before World War I, almost 10,000 Jewish immigrants came to the United States through the port at Galveston, rather than Ellis Island. From there, they fanned out across Texas and dozens of cities towns in the South and Midwest. This presentation by Dr. Josh Furman will explore the history of the Galveston Movement, the goals of the organizers, and the legacy of the project. We will also get to read (in translation) the advertising pamphlet that was used to recruit Yiddish-speaking Jews to make the trip to Texas in 1907! Tu B’Shevat for Young Professionals Sunday, January 16, 2022 Join us for Tu B’Shevat - the birthday of the trees! To celebrate we will explore our Houston Arboretum with a Tu B’Shevat-themed photo scavenger hunt. Afterward, we will gather for a Tu B’Shevat Seder with traditional food and drink for the holiday. Enjoy a day outside and learn about this special holiday. Open to the community - feel free to share! Willow Waterhole Tu B'Shevat Service Project Monday, January 17, 2022 This year Tu B'Shevat and MLK Day fall on the same day! What better inspiration for a service project to help clean up one of our local green spots, Willow Waterhole Greenway.
If you'd like to enjoy the outdoors before we start, meet at 12:30 pm to picnic (bring your own lunch or snacks, we will bring drinks). At 1:00 pm we will start our clean-up project. We will head out in groups to pick up trash around the lakes at Willow Water Hole.

Meals on Wheels - Doorbell Project with Beth Yeshurun We invite you to give back to our house bound seniors with an easy-to-install doorbell project this MLK Day, Monday, January 17th at 10:00am
Many of our Meals on Wheels seniors do not have a working doorbell and are unable to get one installed themselves. These seniors rely on Meals on Wheels for their daily hot meal, and for those who are hard of hearing, it can be especially difficult for them to know we are there, delivering their meal.
Our goal is to provide 150 doorbells to homebound seniors. Ultimately, this project will improve the overall quality of life for our seniors by providing them with the ability to recognize visitor and meal arrivals. Each team will take and "install" a doorbell at 4 different senior's homes or apartments.
Join the Greater Houston Area Jewish Community for the sixth time, assembling as a group to march in downtown Houston on Monday, January 17, 2022.
Will you join us as we march to commemorate and celebrate our long history of Jewish solidarity with interfaith civil rights groups? Our parade group always has an amazing and genuinely fun time performing this fantastic community outreach mitzvah marching in the Houston MLK Grande Parade.
This is not only fun for the participants, especially our youth, it generates positive results in relations between the Jewish & African American communities as we march in solidarity. Our participation honors not just Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but rabbis like Abraham Heschel and Joachim Prinz who worked closely with Dr. King and the civil rights movement. We intend to not only talk the talk, we will walk the walk.

Phase One of Central HVAC System Upgrade Continues
Construction work will take place impacting weekday access to the Synagogue Business and Clergy offices and the North door leading to the J.B. Greenfield Chapel. During this period, the Business and Clergy offices will only be accessible from the Administration Entrance on the Northeast side of the property, closest to Beechnut. Access the J.B. Greenfield Chapel by entering through the Bender Levy Lobby and following the hallway past the Museum and Freedman Levit Sanctuary, through the glass doors that lead to the Memorial Hall.
This is the first phase of a major project to modernize our Central HVAC System (heating, cooling, and control), replacing some components that are almost 60 years old, proceeding in phases through Spring 2022.
Construction activity will only take place Monday through Friday concluding before 4:00pm each week. Pedestrian traffic to the Barg Sanctuary and Pulaski Rauch Auditorium will not be impacted on Shabbat or Sundays.
