The ADL created Kulanu as an organization dedicated to empowering congregations to address antisemitism and hate in their communities through education, community engagement, and advocacy. Join us at Congregation Beth Yeshurun for a three-part series to raise awareness and highlight resources available to combat antisemitism when we are confronted with antisemitism. Our speakers will be followed by Q&A.

Rice University Baker Institute Conference: Israel at 75
Thursday, April 27 from 9:30am-4:00pm at James A. Baker III Hall at Rice University
Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy presents Israel at 75, a conference where diplomats, subject-matter experts, policymakers, and stakeholders will assemble to analyze the binational relationship between the United States and Israel, address the role of the United States in Middle East foreign policy and explore the challenges and opportunities Israel faces internally and abroad. Conference agenda and registration information at the Baker Institute’s website. Beth Yeshurun is a community partner in the Baker Institute’s look at Israel at 75.

Celebrate Israel’s 75 with a tasting of Israeli wines and foods! Ben Bailiff, the Texas Manager of Royal Wines, joins us for a celebration of Israel! He is a wealth of information about Israeli wines and winemaking and will introduce us to a number of Israeli wines available at our local HEB at affordable price points. Enjoy some Israeli bites while tasting some great wines!

Dr. Garth Davis

Davis was born in South Africa and moved to the United States as a child.He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Texas at Austin and from Baylor College of Medicine with high honors. Davis completed his surgical residency at the University of Michigan where he was elected to the position of Chief Administrative Resident.

Davis was the medical director of the Davis Clinic in Houston, Texas, and was the medical director for bariatric surgery at the Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital. He went on to be the medical director of the weight management center at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina.

Davis is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in bariatric surgery and Medical Weight Loss at Mission Weight Management Center in Asheville, North Carolina. He is now back in Houston, Texas, working for Houston Methodist and Methodist West, and is serving as the medical director for the Comprehensive Metabolic Disease Management Center.

Davis is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. In 2007, Davis and his father Robert Davis were featured on the reality television show Big Medicine which contained footage from their bariatric surgery practice. Davis is a vegan in his personal life and supports animal rights.

We celebrated the legacy of Toby and Rabbi Jack Segal during a tribute concert featuring the Shul Sisters on Thursday, March 23rd. During that concert we presente them with a tribute book comprised of personal messages from our congregants and community. We also showed an updated video from Rabbi Segal's retirement celebration.
