Cemetery Update
Thursday marked two weeks since the derecho-like event that caused significant damage to our Post Oak Cemetery. Here's an update on our cleanup and recovery process:
Bender Memorial Chapel: No damage.
Tree Damage: Extensive, with some trees uprooted or snapped, affecting parts of the irrigation system.
Cleanup Progress: Loose branches and debris have been consolidated. Visitors now have unimpeded access to all roads and sidewalks.
Debris Removal: Three additional 30-yard refuse containers have been delivered. Debris will be cleared offsite within the next week.
Legacy Pine Tree: Removed in Section C.
Damaged Oaks: Cutting back damaged oaks in the AA-HH section to try to preserve them. One uprooted oak in CC will be removed.
Mowing: All sections north of the North Road have been mowed.
Gravestones: Some were toppled but not damaged and will be returned to their correct positions after tree removal.
Funerals and Visitations: Ongoing as usual, but some areas may be inaccessible during cleanup.
Allen Parkway Cemetery: No serious tree or structure damage. Driveways and walkways are clear.
Our groundskeeper, Jose Ramirez, estimates cleanup will be complete by mid-June, though a busy week of funerals could delay this.
