Daily and Shabbat Services

Considering the news from the CDC, our local officials, and our medical advisors, we are adjusting our COVID protocols. Effective immediately:

• If you have been fully vaccinated and feel comfortable, you now have the option to remove your mask while at the synagogue. 
• If you have not been fully vaccinated, we ask that you continue to wear a mask while at the synagogue and encourage you to get vaccinated as soon as possible if eligible. We will continue to offer virtual programs and services.
• We will adjust our social distancing in our sanctuaries, sitting every other row and suggesting a distance of 3-feet between congregants that are not in the same pod. Our sanctuaries are large enough for families to spread out further than the suggested 3-feet if they prefer.
• Registration is no longer required for Main Sanctuary and Chapel services.
• If you are experiencing any symptoms of illness, we ask that you stay home and return to the synagogue when you are free of symptoms.

 
Please note that these protocols apply only to the synagogue and not the Religious School or Day School, which will continue with their existing protocols. If you have a condition that weakens your immune system you may not be fully protected even if you have been vaccinated; therefore we suggest you consult with your physician before deciding to stop wearing a mask and social distancing when attending an indoor event.

We want to share the exciting news with you that we will be open for the upcoming High Holy Days. As in previous years, High Holy Day tickets will be mailed to all members in good standing later this summer. We will share more information about any necessary procedures in August.

Our goal is to provide in-person worship services while protecting our congregants and staff. Individuals identified as high risk or higher risk are advised to remain home to limit their risk of exposure. We encourage these individuals to participate through our numerous virtual service options.

As vaccination rates continue to increase – City of Houston guidelines and our medical advisers have given us the ability to expand the number of in-person participants to 200 for services. Our Oneg Shabbat is back, join us after services in the Sukkah courtyard. Registration is only required for our Friday night Shabbat Renewal service - space is limited and reserved for members.

In addition, our daily J.B. Greenfield Chapel service is also open to members with no registration required.

Annual Mollie and Louis Kaplan Museum Lecture, featuring Ori Soltes

Ori Z. Soltes will give the Eleventh Annual Lecture for the Mollie and Louis Kaplan Museum of Judaica, joining a list of distinguished previous lecturers that has included Vivian Mann, Curator of Judaica at the Jewish Museum in New York, Sharon Mintz, Curator for Judaica at the Jewish Theological Seminary and Tom L. Freudenheim, formerly a Director of the Smithsonian. Professor Soltes’ lecture, “What is Jewish Art? From Rembrandt to Shalom of Safed,” will focus on important works in the Kaplan collection, including seven newly acquired works – Rembrandt’s The Triumph of Mordecai (see illustration), five signed Chagall etchings and a beautiful watercolor by Shalom of Safed, supplemented by examples from other museums around the world. MORE INFO

Our goal is to provide in-person worship services while protecting our congregants and staff. Individuals identified as high risk or higher risk are advised to remain home to limit their risk of exposure. We encourage these individuals to participate through our numerous virtual service options.

As vaccination rates continue to increase – City of Houston guidelines and our medical advisers have given us the ability to expand the number of in-person participants to 135 for services. Our Oneg Shabbat is back, join us after services in the Sukkah courtyard. Registration is only required for our Friday night Shabbat Renewal service - space is limited and reserved for members.

In addition, our daily J.B. Greenfield Chapel service is also open to members with no registration required.

In honor of Jerrad Bloome, our synagogue president whose dedicated service throughout the pandemic has ensured the strength of our Congregation through the most challenging crisis facing institutions across the globe, we are pleased to announce that our annual meeting on April 25 will honor Jerrad, his wife Sara and his two daughters Rebecca and Amanda.

During our meeting we will thank Jerrad our outgoing president for tremendous leadership during his term, his mentorship of incoming president David Stein and present the Bloome family with a tribute book comprised of personal messages from our congregation.

All tribute messages must be received by noon on Friday, April 9 to be included in the Bloome Family Tribute Book.
